Lighting up our future : smiles of children / Shoichiro Toyoda

I am very pleased that the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan was so successful. Many countries and people participated in this EXPO, which attracted more than 22 million visitors.
If "Nature's Wisdom", the theme of the EXPO, was warp, then "Global Exchange" was woof. We now live in a global society born out of the 20th century when the international took great strides forward. However, human activity has swamped tolerance of the natural earth. What is most needed now, is to unite and pursue coexistence in which all life can be sustained by learning from nature's wisdom and through exchanges of different cultures.
At the EXPO, Mr.Koji Mizutani presented "Merry EXPO", showing photos of smiles of more than 20,000 people from 23 countries.
When surrounded by such number of their photos and messages, we can not help but agree that smiles are the best means of communication that we inherit from nature and are the power of life itself. Innocent smiles of children were particularly wonderful: they light up our future, crossing cultural boundaries. We must cherish and foster them as our asset to regain a beautiful earth.
I believe in the power of smiles and I hope that the project continues and develops until the smiles of all 6,400 million people on this earth are recorded.
