There is a river with the beautiful name "Kanaregawa" in Nagakutecho. Many houses and temples were burnt down during the Onin war in 1467 and the ashes were dumped into Kanaregawa. Somewhere down the line, people found that the river scented like incense. They dug the place where the smell came from and surprisingly found a golden Buddha there. From that point, the town of Nagakute had a good harvest every year and all people there lived happily with no conflict. People began calling the river "Kanaregawa" which meant "the scent-flowing river."

The kids from Nagakutecho handcrafted an objet d'art expressing the flow of Kanaregawa. They made small incense bags (small bags made of naturally dyed clothes with real incense pieces and cotton stuffing inside) and knitted them onto the smoke-shaped cardboard. A very beautiful Kanaregawa with colorful balls was created.
