After the conclusion of the EXPO 2005 Aichi Japan, the Merry Expo Book was published. The binding is@made entirely of recycled cardboard, except for a sticker on the spine that reads "Merry Expo." The 180-pages book features more than 300 people's smiles and more than 1,000 messages from all over the world, selected out of more than 20,000 people's pictures and messages collected in "Merry From World" and "Merry in EXPO 2005." At the end of the EXPO 2005 in Aichi Japan, MERRY PROJECT's director Mizutani and the staff visited the pavilions from all around the world to collect the discarded cardboard boxes, which would become the covers of the "Merry Expo Book". There was a limited edition of only 6000 units of this Merry book published, for the binding was carried out by hand. The MERRY EXPO was a significant event at EXPO PLAZA, and established two-way communication "from the world to the square and from the square to the world." With the Merry EXPO BOOK we'd like to extend the movement started at the 21st century's first World Expo into the future, making use of the vast amounts of the smiles and messages we have collected. The Merry Expo Book documented what went on at this World Expo and will be remembered for a long time as a significant contribution to our future and the environment of the Earth. Part of the profits from sales of MERRY EXPO Book will go for building a new school in South Africa in an area of extreme poverty, which Mizutani visited for the "Merry from World" photo shoot.
