MERRY IN NEW YORK First Edition : 2003. Feb Free Paper One year after 9.11 the Merry Project came to New York City for nine days, while a plane wrote "I LOVE N.Y." in the blue sky. "People in NY were in very good spirit. They willingly cooperated with me when I asked to photograph them." "We were blessed with good weather and had 'merry' days," says Mizutani. "As a matter of course, it was painful and depressing to walk around Ground Zero. But once you hit the street it was full of positive smiles. No despair, no hope. People know what happiness is because they experienced tragedies. Mizutani photographed 400 people's smiles and collected their handwritten mesages. You can clearly see the hope for the future in these photographs. The art installation based on the New York City (September 11th anniversary project) was shown in Roppongi at THINK ZONE. The images and messages from New York were displayed on the walls and floor for the visitors to feel and enjoy the "Merry" atmosphere. Also, a free paper of these photographs and messages were distributed around the world- mainly in NY and in Tokyo.
